Research

Advanced Organic Synthesis; Medicinal Chemistry; Green Chemistry and Materials Science

Our research interests span the disciplines of Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Materials Science with an emphasis on the development of biologically and optically active small molecules and organic-inorganic hybrid materials. We have a longstanding interest in practicing sustainable chemical synthesis (green chemistry). We use advanced synthetic methodologies like Multicomponent Reactions (MCRs) and Click Chemistry to access functional scaffolds such as macrocycles, linear peptidomimetics, and unorthodox non-conjugated fluorescent molecules that can find applications in diagnosis, therapy, imaging, sensors, optoelectronics, and photovoltaics. We are also interested in biomass conversion to obtain platform chemicals that can be further modified to bioactive/fluorescent functional scaffolds.
